Analysis in a 26-Year-Old Oil Palm Plantation (Elaeis Guineensis Jacq.) at PTPN V Tandun Village Rokan Hulu District

Abstrak

The production of oil palm plants (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) tends to decrease with plant age and soil nutrient depletion. This study aims to assess the soil's chemical characteristics in a 26-year-old oil palm plantation at PTPN V Sei Tapung, Tandun Village, Rokan Hulu Regency. The research was conducted between February 2023 and April 2023 in oil palm plantations owned by PTPN V Sei Tapung, Rokan Hulu Regency, and the soil samples were analyzed at the UNRI Faculty of Agriculture Soil Laboratory. The methodology employed involved field observations, sample collection, and subsequent laboratory analysis to obtain quantitative data. The observed parameters included soil pH, organic carbon content, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, cation exchange capacity, and the concentration of base cations (calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium). The results indicated that the soil in the 26-year-old oil palm plantation at PTPN V Block 10J had a pH level ranging from 6.17 to 6.79, falling within the relatively acidic to neutral range. Total nitrogen, organic carbon, available phosphorus, and cation exchange capacity were categorized as relatively very low to low. Calcium, potassium, magnesium, and sodium levels were considered low to very low, while base cations fell within the low to medium range. The study concludes that the soil chemistry is deficient and requires a reevaluation of fertilization methods for future replanting.
