Abstrak

Coffee husks and solid decanter are agricultural waste products. The application of EM4 in the composting process can accelerate decomposition and improve compost physical properties. This study aimed to assess the physical quality of compost produced from coffee husks and solid decanter using EM4, in accordance with the SNI 19-7030-2004 standard. The research was conducted from May to June 2024 at PT Asam Jawa, located in Torgamba District, South Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra Province. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was implemented with four EM4 dosage treatments: P0 = Without EM4, P1 = 1% EM4, P2 = 2% EM4, and P3 = 3% EM4. The parameters observed included temperature, color, aroma, moisture content, and C/N ratio. The findings revealed that using 3% EM4 enhanced the compost's physical quality, such as temperature, color, aroma, moisture content, C/N ratio, and texture, meeting the SNI 19-7030-2004 standard. Thus, compost with 3% EM4 treatment was identified as the best option, fully complying with the SNI 19-7030-2004.
