Abstrak

Physical dormancy in coffee beans is one of the obstacles in the propagation of liberika coffe. One way to
break Physical dormancy is to soak it in a strong acid solution such as H2SO4. This study aims to obtain the most
appropriate H2SO4 immersion time in breaking the dormancy of liberica coffee seeds. This research has been carried
out at the UARDS laboratory and Laboratory of Agronomy and Agrostology as well as in the experimental field of the
Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science, State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. This research was
conducted from November 2021 to January 2022. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with single
factor and 4 levels of treatment, each treatment was repeated 4 replications. The treatments were immersion in 20%
H2SO4 solution with different soaking times, namely: P0: Not soaked or control, P1: Soaked for 15 minutes, P2: Soaked
for 30 minutes, P3: Soaked for 45 minutes. Parameters observed were germination rate, germination rate index, plant
height, germination dry weight, and root dry weight. Immersion of 20% H2SO4 for 30 minutes was the best immersion
time for germination, vigor index and germination height.
