Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) is a very popular food crop in Indonesia. However, domestic soybean production remains low due to the reduction in available cultivation land caused by land conversion. One of the efforts to increase soybean production is by utilizing marginal land such as ultisol, along with the application of soil amendment (sludge) to improve its properties and quality. This study aims to determine the best dose of oil palm mill sludge to enhance the growth and yield of soybean on ultisol soil. The research was conducted from February to May 2024 in Segati Village, Langgam District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau, and at the Agronomy and Agrostology Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science, Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. Treatments included no sludge application, recommended chemical fertilizer application, and oil palm mill sludge application at rates of 10 tons/ha, 20 tons/ha, 30 tons/ha, and 40 tons/ha. The observed parameters included soil pH, plant height, number of leaves, number of pods per plant, pod weight per plant, pod weight per plot, fresh weight of plants, and dry weight of plants. The results indicated that the application of oil palm mill sludge at a dose of 40 tons/ha yields the best response in terms of growth and yield of soybeans in ultisol soil, and is equally effective as the recommended chemical fertilizer application.
