Abstrak

Adenanthera pavonina L. have hard seed coat, so the seeds undergo physical dormancy. Breaking this
dormancy can be done by using sulfuric acid. The purpose of this study was to obtain the best sulfuric acid immersion
period for breaking dormancy of tree saga seeds. The research was carried out on January until February 2022 in the
Agronomy and Agrostrology laboratory, and the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal science,
State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. The study was carried out using a completely randomized design
(CRD) with single factor, namely the immersion time of tree saga seeds in a 60% sulfuric acid (H2SO4) solution, with 4
levels of soaking period (without soaking, 10, 20, and 30 minutes). Parameters observed were germination, vigor index,
sprout height, number of leaves, wet weight and dry weight of sprouts. The results of this study indicate that the
treament of immersion period the best for breaking the seed dormancy of tree saga is 10 minutes of sulfuric acid
immersion because can accelerate time to germination, increase germination, vigor index, germination height, number
of leaves, wet weight, and dry weight of sprouts.
