Abstrak

Custard apple has hard seeds making it difficult to germinate. One of the efforts to break dormancy in custard
apple is to use H2SO4 and to accelerate germination of seeds can be done by adding GA3. This research was aimed to
determine the best concentration of H2SO4 and GA3, and the interaction between the two treatments on the germination
of custard apple seeds. This research has been carriesd out in the Laboratory of Agronomy and Agrostology as well as
in the green house of the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science, State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim
Riau. The study was conducted on October-November 2021. This study used a completely randomized design (RCD)
with 2 factors and 4 replications. The first factor is H2SO4 concentration (0%, 25%, 50%, and 75%) and the second
factor is GA3 (0%, 25%, 50%, and 75%). The parameters observed were maximum growth potential, germination, index
vigour, growth rate, dormancy intensity, radicular length, hypocotyl length. The results showed that soaking the seeds
at various concentrations of H2SO4 and GA3 could increase maximum growth potential, germination, index vigour,
growth rate, dormancy intensity, and radicular length. Soaking in H2SO4 50% was the best concentration on index
vigour, growth rate, and radicular lenght. Soaking in GA3 50% was the best soaking time for radicular length. There is
an interaction between concentration of H2SO4 and GA3 on the maximum growth potential, germination, and hypocotyl
length.
