The Correlation of Central Obesity and Physical Activity With The Incident of Hypertension In Pre-Ederly at Tenayan Raya Health Center

Abstrak

Background: Hypertension is a condition without symptoms, where abnormally high pressure in the arteries causes an increased risk of stroke, aneurysm, heart failure, heart attack and kidney damage. Several factors that influence the incidence of hypertension include obesity and physical activity. Objective: To determine the relationship between central obesity and physical activity on the incidence of hypertension in pre-elderly people in the Tenayan Raya Community Health Center Work Area. This research was conducted at the Tenayan Raya Community Health Center, Kulim District, Pekanbaru City from April to May 2024. Method: The research design used in this study was cross sectional. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a sample size of 71 respondents. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires, interviews, and measuring abdominal circumference. Result: Based on the results of data analysis using the Chi-Square test, it was found that there was a relationship between central obesity and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly (0.024 < 0.1) and there was a relationship between physical activity and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly (0.026 < 0.1). Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between central obesity and physical activity in pre-elderly people in the work area of ​​the Tenayan Raya Community Health Center.
