The Correlation Between Maternal Nutritional Knowledge, Energy Intake And Protein With Wasting In Pasar Sibuhuan Village

Abstrak

Wasting is a condition along a child's body weight decreases over time until the total body weight is far below the standard growth curve. There are several factors that influence the occurrence of wasting, namely direct causes (nutrient intake, infectious diseases) and indirect causes such as parental knowledge, parenting patterns, and food security. This study aims to determine the correlation between maternal nutrition knowledge and nutrient intake (energy and protein) with wasting in Pasar Sibuhuan Village. The research was conducted in January 2023. The research design used was a cross sectional study, a sample of 50 people. The results showed that the nutritional knowledge of mothers in Pasar Sibuhuan Village was in the moderate category 56%, less 32% and good 12%. The level of energy intake of toddlers was in the category of severe deficit 34%, moderate deficit 36%, mild deficit 16%, and good 14%. The level of protein intake of children under five was in the category of severe deficit 12%, moderate deficit 10%, less 16%, and sufficient 48%, and more 14%. The nutritional status of toddlers who experienced wasting 40% and not wasting 60%. The results of the chi square test showed that there was a significant correlation between maternal nutritional knowledge, energy and protein intake with the incidence of wasting in toddlers with (p <0.05). In conclusion, there is a correlation between maternal nutritional knowledge, energy and protein intake with the incidence of wasting in Pasar Sibuhuan Village.
