Marketing channels and margins for qurban cattle in Rambah Samo District Rokan Hulu Regency

Qurban cattle are selected livestock that are offered as a form of sacrifice from the qurban worship by Muslims on Eid al-Adha. The purpose of this study was to determine the marketing channels and margins obtained by each qurban cattle marketing institution in Rambah Samo District, Rokan Hulu Regency. The study used a survey method and purposive sampling. The results of the study showed that the qurban cattle marketing channels in Rambah Samo District, Rokan Hulu Regency consisted of three channels. The first channel is: farmers - consumers, the second: farmers - belantik (toke) - qurban committee (mosque/prayer room) - consumers, and the third: farmers - butchers - consumers. The marketing margin on the second channel consists of IDR 1,200,000 for belantik and IDR 800,000 for the qurban committee. While the marketing margin on the third channel is IDR 1,500,000 for butchers. The marketing efficiency was 0.68%, 6.7% and 1.53% respectively, with farmer share of 89.65%, 85.71% and 88.46% for channels one, two and three. The conclusion of this study is that the first channel (farmers - consumers) is the best channel, because it has the lowest level of marketing efficiency and the highest farmer share.
