Abstrak

The red jungle fowl is thought to be the ancestor of various types of native chickens, which are widely spread throughout the country, for example: free-range chicken, pelung chicken, sentul chicken and balenggek crowing chicken. The purpose of this study was to identify qualitative traits and analyze the differences of Sumatran red jungle fowl based on their habitats in Riau Province. Comparisons were made between the Sumatran red jungle fowl covering 20 individuals in Kampar District (10 individuals in swamp habitat and 10 individuals in hill habitat), Siak District 20 individuals (10 individuals in swamp habitat and 10 individuals in hill habitat) and 10 individuals in Pelalawan District (swamp habitat) in Riau Province. Variables measured were Body Weight (BW), Beak Length (BL), Neck Length (NL), Wing Length, Back Length (BLg) Chest Length (CL) Chest Width (CW), Third Finger Length (TFL), Comb shape, beak color and shank color. The results of this study were that there were differences in morphometric measurements of dorsal length and breast length between the Sumatran red junglefowl of swamp habitat and hill habitat, where the dorsal length and breast length of jungle fowl with swamp habitat were smaller than that of the hill habitat jungle fowl and the shape of the red jungle fowl's comb. Sumatra is single, the color of the beak is black and the color of the shank is black and there is no difference in the shape of the comb, the color of the beak and the color of the shank between the Sumatran red jungle fowl in the swamp and hill habitats. The conclusion of this study is that there is only a slight difference in body size of the Sumatran red jungle fowl in swamp and hill habitats and there is no difference between the shape of the comb, the color of the beak and the color of the shank.
