Abstrak

Pineapple peel is an agricultural waste that has the potential as an alternative feed for ruminants and poultry. Pineapple peel processed into silage, with the addition of various carbohydrate source feed ingredients in improve the quality of pineapple peel. The purpose of this study was to assess the physical and microbiological quality of pineapple peel silage production with the addition of various carbohydrate source feed ingredients. The design used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments 4 repeats, P0 (100% pineapple peel), P1 (70% pineapple peel + 30% corn flour), P2 (70% pineapple peel + 30% tapioca starch waste), P3 (70% pineapple peel + 30% rice bran) P4 (70% pineapple peel + 10% corn flour + 10% tapioca starch waste + 10% rice bran), and all treatments added molasses. The variables measured were odor, presence of mold, color, texture, pH, and lactic acid bacteria (LAB) population. The results showed that pineapple peel silage with the addition of various carbohydrate source feed ingredients had no sicgnificant (P>0.05) odor, the presence of mold, texture, and pH, but had a sicnificant (P<0.05) effect on color, and a highly sicnificant (P<0.01) effect on the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) population. The average scores of panelists were odor, mushroom, color, texture, and pH. The conclusion of this study is that pineapple peel silage with the addition of various carbohydrate source feeds improves physical quality on color, and lactic acid bacteria (LAB) population.
