The Effect of Planting Media Types on The Growth and Yield of Kailan (Brassica oleraceae L.) with The NFT Hydroponic System

Kailan (Brassica oleracea L.) is a vegetable that has advantages compared to other cabbage-type plants. Kailan grows well in a hydroponic system when supported by the appropriate growing medium. This study aimed to determine the best type of growing medium for the growth and yield of kailan plants using the NFT hydroponic system. The research was conducted from March to April 2025 at the Greenhouse of the UARDS Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science, Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Syarif Kasim Syarif Kasim This study used a Randomized Block Design consisting of six treatments and four replications, namely M1: brick pieces, M2: fern roots, M3: rockwool, M4: rice husk charcoal, M5: cocopeat, and M6: sponge. The observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, stem diameter, root length, fresh weight, dry weight, and chlorophyll content. Rockwool and cocopeat has an effect on the growth and yield of kailan plants in the NFT hydroponic system. The rockwool and cocopeat growing medium is the best medium to support the growth and yield of kailan plants in the NFT hydroponic system.
