Effect of Tauge Extract on Invigoration of Expired Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Seeds

Abstrak

During the storage period, rice seeds may deteriorate or a decrease in vigor. One way to improve seed vigor is by using natural Plant Growth Regulators (PGR), one of which is tauge extract. This study aims to get the best interaction between the treatment of tauge extract concentration and expiration period on the invigoration of expired rice seeds. The research was conducted from January 2024 to April 2024 at UPT PSBTPH Riau Province. This study used a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two factors, namely the concentration of tauge extract (0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%) and the seed expiration period (6, 12, 18 months). The parameters observed were maximum growth potential, vigor index, uniformity of growth, germination and growth speed. The results showed that the treatment of tauge extract and seed expiration period had a significant effect on all parameters observed. The conclusion of this research is that there is an interaction between the concentration of tauge extract and the expiration period of the seeds on the parameters of maximum growth potential, vigor index, uniformity of growth, germination and growth speed. The treatment of 5% tauge extract with 6 months seed expiration period is the best interaction on all observation parameters.
