Semen quality is a major factor in the selection of Bali bulls to support the success of artificial insemination programmes and increase livestock productivity. Semen quality can be evaluated by assessing macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. This study aimed to determine the relationship between macroscopic characteristics (volume, pH, viscosity) and microscopic characteristics (motility, individual movement, concentration) of Bali cattle semen. The research material used fresh semen from 13 Bali bulls kept at the Tenayan Raya IBT Technical Implementation Unit, Riau Province Livestock and Animal Health Service. The study used a census method. The data obtained were calculated by displaying the mean and standard deviation values, while the correlation values were analysed using Minitab statistical software. The variables observed were the macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of Bali cattle semen. The results showed that the average macroscopic values of Bali cattle semen were 6.13±1.58 for volume, 6.20±0.03 for pH, and 1.51±0.24 for viscosity. The average microscopic values of Bali cattle were motility 73.66±6.58%, individual movement 2.47±0.29, and concentration 988.93±149.21 million/ml. Correlation analysis showed that the values of volume against motility, individual movement and concentration were 0.40; 0.39; -0.13. pH against motility, individual movement and concentration were -0.40; -0.10; 0.14. The correlation between viscosity and motility, individual movement, and concentration was 0.25, 0.29, and 0.96. It can be concluded that the highest correlation with a strong positive relationship in macroscopic and microscopic characteristics is found in the viscosity value against the concentration of Bali bull semen.
