Oil palm fronds are a high-fiber feed ingredient that generally exhibits low digestibility in ruminants. Efforts to improve their quality can be achieved by adding Indigofera zollingeriana as a plant-based protein source and applying anaerobic fermentation using discarded commercial syrup as an energy source for fermentative microbes. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of adding discarded commercial syrup on the quality of silage made from a mixture of oil palm fronds and Indigofera zollingeriana. The experiment was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and five replications. The treatments consisted of adding discarded commercial syrup at levels of 1.50%, 3%, 4.50%, and 6% of dry matter, while P1 served as the control (75% oil palm fronds and 25% Indigofera). The parameters observed included dry matter (DM), dry matter loss (DML), pH, and Fleigh value (FV). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the addition of discarded commercial syrup significantly affected silage pH and Fleigh value, whereas dry matter and dry matter loss did not differ among treatments. The best treatment was P5 (6% DM), which produced the highest Fleigh value (108±4.97) and the lowest pH (3.98±0.03). Therefore, the use of discarded commercial syrup at 6% of dry matter was found to be the most effective in improving the quality of silage made from oil palm fronds and Indigofera zollingeriana.

Pelepah kelapa sawit merupakan bahan pakan berserat tinggi yang umumnya memiliki tingkat kecernaan rendah pada ternak ruminansia. Upaya untuk meningkatkan kualitasnya dapat dilakukan dengan menambahkan Indigofera zollingeriana sebagai sumber protein nabati serta menerapkan fermentasi anaerob dengan bantuan sirup komersial afkir sebagai sumber energi bagi mikroba fermentatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai pengaruh penambahan sirup komersial afkir terhadap mutu silase campuran pelepah kelapa sawit dan Indigofera zollingeriana. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan lima perlakuan dan lima ulangan. Perlakuan terdiri atas penambahan sirup komersial afkir sebanyak 1,50%, 3%, 4,50%, dan 6% dari bahan kering, sedangkan P1 sebagai kontrol terdiri atas 75% pelepah kelapa sawit dan 25% Indigofera. Parameter yang diamati meliputi kadar bahan kering (BK), kehilangan bahan kering (KBK), nilai pH, dan nilai Fleigh (NF). Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis ragam (ANOVA) dan dilanjutkan dengan uji DMRT pada taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan sirup komersial afkir berpengaruh nyata terhadap nilai pH dan Fleigh silase, sedangkan kadar BK dan KBK tidak menunjukkan perbedaan antarperlakuan. Perlakuan terbaik diperoleh pada P5 (6% BK) dengan nilai Fleigh tertinggi (108±4,97) dan pH terendah (3,98±0,03). Dengan demikian, penggunaan sirup komersial afkir sebanyak 6% dari bahan kering dinilai paling efektif untuk meningkatkan kualitas silase campuran pelepah kelapa sawit dan Indigofera zollingeriana.
