Study of Daily Activity of Sambar Deer (Cervus Unicolor Kerr) in Livestock Area of Palangka Raya City as a Breeding Effort
Abstrak
The existence of Sambar Deer (Cervus unicolor Kerr) are increasingly threatened due to the destruction of habitat and illegal hunting. Population decline of Sambar Deer can be avoided by habitat management. One of the Sambar Deer protected area in Kalimantan Tengah is livestock area of Palangka Raya City. The aim of this study was determine daily activities of Sambar Deer in livestock area of Palangka Raya City and find out the most dominant activity of Sambar Deer every day. This research used four samples of Sambar Deer consist of two harts which are given the sample code J1&J2, and two hinds with the sample code B1&B2. This research used three methods which are Focal Animal Sampling, Ad Libitum Sampling, and One Zero Sampling. The result of this study is that there are ten daily activities of Sambar Deer which are activities such as Eating Activity, Drinking Activity, Moving Activity, Resting Activity, Grooming Activity, Activity of Grinding the Antlers, Shelter Seeking Activity, Wallowing Activity, Vocal Activity and Mating Activity. Eating and resting Activity is the most dominant activity detected with a percentage of 41.0% (the average time of 4 hours 30 minutes) per 11 hours and 40.7% (the average time of 4 hours 20 minutes) per 11 hours. Mating activity is the lowest activity with a percentage of 1.9% (the average time of 13 minutes) per 11 hours.
