This research aims to determine the effect of adding Tween 80 on the characteristics of sago flour-based bioplastics (Metroxylon sagu Rottb). This study was prompted by the increasingly severe problem of plastic waste accumulation, which is difficult to decompose in the environment. Bioplastics offer an environmentally friendly alternative that can decompose naturally. Additionally, during the bioplastic manufacturing process, difficulties in releasing the bioplastic from the mold are often encountered. Therefore, Tween 80 was added to facilitate the release of bioplastics from molds through its surfactant properties. The experiment was conducted using a completely randomized design with six concentrations of Tween 80 (0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, and 1.25 ml). The parameters observed included tensile strength, elongation, thickness, water resistance, and water vapor transmission rate (WVTR). The results showed that Tween 80 significantly affected all the properties tested. Increasing Tween 80 concentration reduced tensile strength and water resistance but increased elongation, thickness, and WVTR. The best results were obtained at a Tween 80 concentration of 0 ml with a tensile strength of 3.44 MPa, water resistance of 77.45%, WVTR of 4.43 g/m²·h, and a degradation period of 25 days.
